Your Voice with Audacity |
Building
a basic presentation that records and uses voice may be an important
tool for communicating information. This project is based on
employing two programs, Impress, which is the presentation
program with OpenOffice, and Audacity, an easy to use
sound editor, for building a voice presentation.
This project has four phases:
Phase One - Build a Basic Slide
Phase Two - Record Digital Voice
Phase Three - Modify Digital Voice
Phase Four - Insert Voice into the
Presentation
Phase
Two - Recording With Audacity
Recording with Audacity is really easier than recording with
a Windows computer. you need to have two features, a sound card
and a microphone. Be sure to connect the microphone to the correct
port in the sound card, this should be done when the computer
is turned off. The connections are often color coded to help
select the correct connection. It is a good idea to do a few
test recordings until you get the feel for how the program works.
Click
record and begin talking into the microphone. You will be able
to see if you are speaking loud enough because you will visibly
see the tones and inflections in your voice. If you only see
a straight line, or close to it, you are not speaking loud enough.
Of course when you play it back you will have a good indicator
of your sound recording quality. Be aware that one minute may
record up to 8 MB of space for a .WAV file. Keep this in mind
as you build your voice project.

The record button is the red dot which will continue recording
until you stop it, beware of using too much hard drive space.
Once
you record your audio then edit it as a .WAV file. Insert the
.WAV file as a sound file into the Impress Presentation.
